Jail for men who robbed bookmakers

Joel Farrow-Brown

TWO men who robbed a Cambridge bookmakers have been jailed for more than five years.

Nathan Healy, 19, of Glebe Road and Joel Farrow-Brown, 18, of Bosworth Road were sentenced to three years one month and two years respectively at Cambridge Crown Court on Thursday (June 22).

Healy pleaded guilty to robbery and assaulting a police officer and Farrow-Brown pleaded guilty to robbery.

The court heard how Healy kicked open the front door of Corals bookmakers in Newmarket Road at about 8pm on January 24.

Brandishing a meat cleaver and wearing a homemade balaclava he demanded money from staff behind the counter and made off with about £270.

Farrow-Brown had attempted to get through the back door but was unable to gain access.

A search was launched and the pair were found by officers within an hour of the robbery hiding in a shed in Fen Ditton with a rucksack containing the stolen money.

Detective Constable Sam Constable said: “Healy and Farrow-Brown had planned to attack from both doors to stop any staff or customers from escaping.

“I would like to thank the staff, who despite being very shaken, immediately called police and we were able to track them down quickly.”
