Don't forget to vote in Parliamentary General Election

ELECTIONS take place in Cambridge this Thursday 8 June, to elect Members of Parliament for the Cambridge constituency (in 13 city wards) and for the South Cambridgeshire constituency (in Queen Edith’s ward).

There will be 47 polling stations at 36 sites open across the city from 7am until 10pm (see list below). Residents’ polling stations are listed on their poll card and can also be found on the council’s website or by phoning 01223 457048. All are accessible to people with a mobility or visual disability.

Everyone who registered and is eligible to vote will now have received a poll card – although people do not need their poll card to vote, they simply need to give their name and address to the polling clerk.

The candidates for 8 June in the Cambridge constituency are:

  • Keith Alexander Garrett, Rebooting Democracy
  • John Hayward, Conservative
  • Julian Leon Huppert, Liberal Democrat
  • Stuart James Tuckwood, Green
  • Daniel Zeichner, Labour

The count for the elections will take place overnight on Thursday-Friday after the polls close, with the results expected to be declared early on Friday morning.

Antoinette Jackson, Acting Returning Officer for the Parliamentary General Election in Cambridge, said: “The Parliamentary General Election provides the opportunity for residents to decide who will represent them at Westminster, and help make many important decisions that will affect them and the place they live. As with all elections, I would urge everyone who is registered to take the time to use their vote on Thursday and to play their part in the country’s democratic process.”
