A dangerous driver who killed a woman in a head-on crash has been jailed for five years.
On Friday 10 June 2022, Iurie Ciumac was driving along the A1303 Newmarket Road between Stow Cum Quy and Bottisham when he collided head-on with a car coming the other way.
The driver of the other car, 24-year-old Holly Lucas from Newmarket, was pronounced dead at the scene.
On Wednesday 24 April 2024, 34-year-old Ciumac from Peterborough, was jailed for five years and banned from driving for five years.
In a statement, Holly’s mother said:
"Losing my beautiful daughter Holly, in such a senseless and tragic way, has left all who knew and loved her in deep grief.
"Holly was a vibrant and compassionate young woman, newly married, with a glowing future.
"It has taken nearly two years to finally have some justice and have some level of closure.
"We can now move forward and remember Holly for not how she died, but for how she lived."
Cambridgeshire Police has said this case should serve as a reminder to people to drive with care.
Officers are hoping this sentence will give Holly's family "a little bit of closure."
