Countdown to Parklife is on!

Parklife, South Cambridgeshire District Council’s free, family fun day returns on Sunday 1 July, and residents are being reminded about the exciting range of activities that’ll be on offer.

For the tenth year, the event, which usually attracts thousands of people, will take place at Milton Country Park. Organised with Cambridge Sport Lakes Trust, who manage the Country Park, Parklife brings together lots of free outdoor activities and entertainment.

On the water at Parklife on Sunday 1 July, there will be taster sessions in paddleboarding, canoeing, kayaking and fishing and, for a donation, hovercraft rides courtesy of local charity Hoveraid.

Almost all advance booking slots in canoeing, paddleboading and kayaking are now filled. However, more sessions will be available to book from 10am on the day of the event, so families wanting to secure a slot are being advised to get there early to avoid disappointment. For those inspired by a taster session, watersports sessions are available at the Country Park all year round.

Away from the water and back on dry land, Sawston Sports Centre are joining events at Milton Country Park to provide a range of exciting footballing activities for people of all ages to try. With the 2018 World Cup in Russia getting underway, it’ll be the perfect opportunity to build-up skills by having a go at inflatable zorbs, speed-goal and foot darts, which are all being provided by Sawston Sports Centre.

This year’s Parklife will also feature a mobile caving system to explore. Many regular favourites will be returning too, such as archery, climbing walls, bouncy castles (please bring socks), balance and all ability bikes, mountain biking, bush craft and pond dipping.

An entertainment area will showcase a variety of local music and dance acts and there will be an excellent range of catering, as well as a vintage tea tent. Families can of course bring a picnic too.

Milton Country Park’s new children’s playground will also be opened in time for Parklife. Following an appeal by Cambridge Sport Lakes Trust to raise £115,000, the new play area will include a zip-wire and climbing areas. It’s been designed to ‘provide a stimulating, exciting place for children to enjoy playing, learning and physical activity.’

The best place to park for free on the day will be at Milton Park and Ride, CB24 6DQ, which is a 15-minute walk to the Country Park via the footbridge over the A10. Parking at the Country Park costs £4 and will be extremely limited.

Cllr Anna Bradnam, Member for Milton and Waterbeach and Vice-Chairman of South Cambridgeshire District Council will be opening the event, and said: “I’m really looking forward to Parklife again this year and joining lots of families who will be trying out new activities in the open air. Milton Country Park is a fantastic setting and the perfect location to really enjoy being outdoors. We’re hugely grateful to several local organisations for helping us to run Parklife. It just wouldn’t be possible to put on such an enjoyable day for our residents without their support.”

Parklife would not be possible without the help of Cambridge Sport Lakes Trust, Sawston Sports Centre, Tesco, Real Life, Wildly Curious and Crossfit Stags and Does.
