Cambridge seal double University Boat Race wins

The men's and women's teams have completed back-to-back victories in 2024.

It's Cambridge's fifth win in the last six men's University boat races and a seventh successive win in the women's race.

Rowers had been told not to celebrate by going in the River Thames due to a threat of E-coli.

Last week, Sean Bowden, Oxford's coach described the pollution as a 'national disgrace'.

Hannah Murphy, Women's Cox said:

"Just crossing the line, we were all super proud. We knew that was the fastest race we could put down, it was the best race we could do. Pure pride on our part".

Sebastien Benzecry, Men's President said:

"That was my last race with the club and it's been four unbelievable years. Going into it, this is the biggest challenge we've had. The Oxford crew were a very classy unit. We knew we had to put a lot into it and push ourselves to a place where we very rarely go".

Since the men's event started in 1930, Cambridge has won the University Boat Race 87 times in total.

The Cambridge women's teams have now clocked up 30 wins since their race was introduced in 1966.
