a-ha are coming to Cambridge in summer 2018!

The iconic Norwegian trio a-ha are set to perform at the Cambs Glass Stadium on Sunday 10 June as part of their 2018 Summer Electric Tour, performing some of their biggest hits, and will be joined by very special guests; the iconic OMD and The Thompson Twins’ Tom Bailey.

a-ha are globally one of the most iconic pop bands to hail from the 1980s. The multi-Platinum selling Norwegian trio are composed of lead vocalist Morten Harket, guitarist Pal Waaktaar-Savoy and keyboardist Magne Furuholmen. Widely regarded as true pioneers of both music and video technology to arise during the mid-80s, they are perhaps best known for their huge and instantly recognisable hit Take on Me which made Number One internationally, matched by their single The Sun Always Shines on TV – both of which were fruit of their best-selling debut album Hunting High and Low, released in 1985. The trio have gone on to release ten studio and two live albums plus their latest highly acclaimed MTV Unplugged album.

Loyal MTV fans have year on year voted Take on Me in their ‘Top 10 Best Music Videos’.

The 2018 Summer Electric Tour will see the pop idols do what they do best, performing their hearts out to highly appreciative fans, and by contrast to the latest acoustic album, will see them bring a full electric set to carefully selected UK venues - promising their biggest hits and of course new material. The trio will be joined by a full new band including a string section for what is set to be a stellar summer evening playlist.

Morten Harket said “We do feel a close affinity to the UK and our fans there. We have also always seen fans travel to our shows to and within the UK and welcome all. It’s exciting to play outdoors and take our music to locations which are not traditional Arena touring places. As ever we always want to do things in a new way, to keep things exciting for our fans. We are very much looking forward to playing in Cambridge in June.”

OMD (Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark) are the pioneering synth-pop group – founded almost 40 years ago by two teenage Kraftwerk fans from the Wirral; Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys. The band is widely considered as one of the most influential bands of all time. OMD released their influential debut single, Electricity, in 1979, and gained popularity throughout Europe with the 1980 anti-war song Enola Gay. The band achieved broader recognition via their seminal album in 1981 Architecture & Morality, which included three international hits, and the 1983 album Dazzle Ships, with both albums dominating the music scene during that decade.

The last decade has seen them return with three new studio albums, including this year’s The Punishment of Luxury which charted #4 in the UK album chart.
The Thompson Twins had huge hits on both sides of the Atlantic in the eighties including Doctor Doctor, You Take Me Up, Love on Your Side and the iconic Hold me Now. For decades the band’s fans have been waiting for their return. Now Thompson Twins singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer Tom Bailey has returned with a new band touring and performing the Thompson Twins much-loved hits. In 2016 Classic Pop magazine awarded Bailey's band ‘Best Live Act’ beating Duran Duran, Kylie and Kraftwerk.

The Thompson Twins’ Tom Bailey features Tom Bailey on vocals, keyboards, guitar, harmonica and percussion. His all-female band feature Charlotte Raven on vocals/keyboards, Amanda Kramer (Psychedelic Furs/Information Society) on vocals/keyboards and Paulina Szczepaniak on electronic drums. Tom Bailey will release his first new contemporary album in over 20 years in 2018.

The a-ha 2018 Electric Summer Tour with very special guests OMD and The Thompson Twins’ Tom Bailey will include a performance at The Cambs Glass Stadium, Cambridge on Sunday 10 June 2018.
