New rooftop cafe and bistro planned for Mill Road

Plans have been submitted to Cambridge City Council to create the cafe terrace above the Harvest Organic Shop

The business has said it hopes to create a “vibrant and inclusive gathering place” for both people living in the city and those visiting the area. The planning application said the existing shop had seen “huge interest” in its current coffee area.

The business owners hope to now expand this to the first floor and create a cafe and bistro space where people can stay for longer than the existing area allows for.

The cafe and bistro is planned to be enclosed with a retractable roof installed that the business proposes to open when the weather allows. The application said the proposed terrace matches the height of the neighbouring building’s extension, and said the development was designed to not create a visual impact by using plants to obscure its view from neighbours.

The shop is due to remain on the ground floor under the plans. Planning documents submitted as part of the application said: “The proposed cafe/bistro project represents an exciting addition to the Mill Road, Cambridge community, aiming to create a vibrant and inclusive gathering place for residents and visitors.

“The cafe/bistro project is situated at 180 – 182 Mill Road, within the heart of Cambridge.

“Spanning 153 square metres, the establishment is designed to offer a warm and welcoming atmosphere, catering to a diverse clientele seeking quality bistro, exceptional service, and an enjoyable in house experience.”
