Fire crews remain at the scene of Monday night's fire in Mill Road, Cambridge.

Crews were called at 11.23pm on Monday night to a building that was well alight on Mill Road in the city.

When they arrived, crews found that the fire had spread from a shop to the flats above.

Over 90 firefighters from Cambridge, Cottenham, Ely, Burwell, Linton, Papworth, St Neots, March, Huntingdon, St Ives, Saffron Walden, Wickhambrook, Bury St Edmunds, and Newmarket attended the blaze along with police and ambulance services.

Mill Road remains closed (Tuesday evening) to both vehicles and pedestrians between Mawson Road and the railway bridge. There is also no access to Mill Road from Parkside.

Residents who are directly affected by the fire and need support and advice regarding housing, are being asked to contact Cambridge City Council on 01223 457000.

Crews remain at the scene of the fire making sure any hot spots are extinguished and ensuring the area is safe.

The complexity of the building and the damage to the structure has presented challenges for the crews. It has not been safe to enter the building to tackle the fire from within, so firefighters have been damping down from the outside.

A cordon remains in place to ensure crews can tackle the fire safely and that the area is safe for the public.
