Cambridge Jobs Threatened As Jamie Oliver Chain Collapses

Scores of jobs in Cambridge are at risk after the celebrity chef's restaurant group collapsed into administration.

25 restaurants, including two in Cambridge's Wheeler Street, are affected by the move, with than 1.250 jobs across the UK thought to be at risk.

The group, including the Jamie's Italian chain, Barbecoa and Fifteen, has appointed KPMG as administrators.

Overseas branches of Jamie's Italian, along with Jamie Oliver's Fifteen Cornwall at Watergate Bay in Cornwall are unaffected.

Jamie's Italian launched 11 years ago.

The Unite union said the development was a "devastating blow for the chain's hardworking and loyal workforce".

"As ever, it is the workers at the restaurant and in the supply chain who bear the heavy cost of boardroom decisions."

The demise of Jamie Oliver's restaurant group is the latest victim of a tough trading environment on the UK High Street.

Earlier this year, the cake and coffee chain Patisserie Valerie fell into administration, with 70 branches subsequently shutting , although 96 shops, including one in Jesus Lane, were saved.
