Witness appeal following theft in Peterborough

OFFICERS investigating a theft in Werrington on Monday (11 December) are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

At about 6.15pm the victim went to Pheasant Grove to sell a high value Samsung mobile phone. The sale had been agreed on an internet auction site and the victim had agreed to deliver the item.

When there was no answer at the address given, the victim waited at the general location and after a few minutes was approached by a man claiming to be the buyer. The victim handed the phone to the man, who then ran off without paying.  It is believed that the address given was not part of the theft.

The offender is described as a black man aged 21-40, wearing jeans, a blue body warmer and black Nike boots.

Detective Sergeant Jacqueline Shersby said: “We’re appealing for anyone with information about this incident to come forward.

“We’d also like to take this opportunity to make people aware of this type of offence and advise people to be cautious about delivering high value items to addresses that are sold via online auction sites.”

Anyone with information regarding this incident should call police on 101 quoting CF0717581217 or visit www.cambs.police.uk/report. Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111 or via www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
