Cambridge University Hospitals is, quite literally, flying the flag for overseas workers.
The Trust, which this summer held an event to celebrate that 84 nationalities work at Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie, has created a 12ft flag that pays tribute to each and everyone one of them.
The flag, made up of 84 national flags on a blue background that together create a silhouette of the hospital buildings, was hoisted today (Wednesday 3 October).
It takes pride of place on a flagpole at the front of the campus complete with the strapline “84 nationalities. One CUH”, reinforcing the message that the trust is one big family
Staff at CUH range from Afghans, to Zimbabweans. The highest numbers come from countries like India, the Philippines and, of course, the UK.
Director of workforce David Wherrett said: “We could not operate without our incredibly diverse workforce and our staff who have joined us from overseas. The flag further celebrates the incredible contribution they make here at the Trust. It’s thanks to our great staff from the UK, EU and all over the world that we are able to provide outstanding care for our patients.”
