A business development expert from Ely is to continue raising funds for East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) by taking part in its new and improved Ride for Life.
Steve Sharp, who works at the Cambridge Building Society, helped bring in some £4,000 last year as part of an Ely City Golf Club group who did the Three Peaks Challenge.
He will add to that by riding around 65 miles (105km) for EACH on Sunday, 1 October, starting at the charity’s hospice in Milton.
Steve said: “I try to keep fairly fit and enjoy a challenge, although I’ve never cycled more than 25 miles in one go before! I’ll be doing lots of training around Ely in the weeks leading up to the day.”
Ride for Life starts on Friday, 29 September and runs over three days. Cyclists can choose to cycle the full 200 miles (322km) or, like Steve, sign up for a day.
The ride starts and finishes at the home of headline sponsor Johnston Logistics UK, in Snetterton, Norfolk.
It will take in all three of EACH’s hospices - Quidenham, in Norfolk, The Treehouse, in Ipswich, and Milton – where cheering squads will urge cyclists on.
Entry for a day is £50, with a minimum sponsorship of £150 per person. Entry for all three days is £200, with a minimum sponsorship of £300 per person. Dinner, bed and breakfast is included.
Karen Newton, EACH Cambridgeshire Fundraising Manager, said: “There’s no competitive aspect and both individuals and teams are welcome. The great thing about cycling together for three days is that the group will work together to support one another, so by the end of it some firm friends will have been made!

EACH cares for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across East Anglia and supports their families. For both those accessing care and those who have been bereaved, the charity is a lifeline at an unimaginably difficult time.
Delivering that vital service costs almost £6 million a year and all funds raised through Ride for Life will help.
