CELEBRATE ELY’S HISTORY THIS HERITAGE WEEKEND

The City of Ely will once again be celebrating its rich and varied history by taking part in the National Heritage weekend from the 8th to the 10th of September 2017.

Locals and visitors alike will be given the opportunity to explore many of the city’s most famous historic buildings for free, some of which are not usually open to the public.

Organised by the Tourist Information Centre, nine venues in the city are involved in the programme and guided walks have been arranged to take in some of the period buildings and amazing architecture.

The three-day programme will contain tours of some of Ely’s most famous attractions with a chance to experience them after dark which adds to the atmosphere and overall experience.

Other venues include Kings’ Schools’ Ely Porta, once the main entrance to Ely Monastery and its Monastic Barn, built in 1375 during the reign of Edward III.

Tickets for a number of the pre-booked tours are bookable on-line now.

The National Heritage Weekend runs every September and involves some 40,000 volunteers across England organising 5,000 events to celebrate our country’s fantastic history, architecture and culture.

It's your chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – all of which are free to explore.
